In 2002 the Association aimed to contribute to the development of Três Corações community, in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, in Rio de Janeiro, and enhance the residents’ quality of life. The project sought to stimulate community involvement in the issues of garbage collection and preservation of urban space.
The project, supported by BrazilFoundation, enabled unemployed residents of the region to work on daily collection of waste and conservation of the neighborhood streets for the course of one year. The project also stimulated the organization of a community center and helped to improve knowledge on health and hygiene in the community, and the quality of life and self-esteem of the population.
