Folia Cidadã
The Association works to preserve the popular culture of Joao Pessoa, in partnership with 25 carnival associations in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba. With the support of BrazilFoundation, the Folia Cidadã project taught musical instruments, and the production of props and “Mamulengos” puppets (giant puppets that are part of regional popular culture). Everything produced by the young participants was used in the Carnaval de Rua, which led to the organization being recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a “Point of Culture.*”
* Title of recognition awarded by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture to institutions that have made socio-cultural impacts in their communities.
