Comunema – Coletivo de Mulheres Negras Maria Maria

The restructuring of the “NEPAZ – Strategic Center for Human Rights and Promotion of Peace,” the training of its operational teams, and the expansion of the number of Legal Popular Promoters, extending the project to other isolated communities in the Altamira region in Pará, are some of the outcomes of the NEPAZ project supported by the BrazilFoundation Gender Equity Fund. The estimated beneficiary audience is 4,000 women and girls through the expansion of NEPAZ’s activities from three to eight communities. The initiative is led by the Black Women’s Collective “Maria, Maria” – Comunema, in operation since 2015. During this period, 28 social projects have been developed, focusing on ensuring gender equity, preventing and addressing all forms of violence, generating work, income, and economic empowerment for Black women, LGBTQIAPN+, and quilombola individuals. The collective also engages in organized advocacy and political influence, promoting the implementation of public policies.
