Fighting slave labor in the supply chain through communications

The question of work being analogous to slavery is historical in Brazil. According to the Ministry of Labor, about 50,000 workers were freed from this situation, in the country, between 1995, when the Brazilian government acknowledged the existence of slave labor, through 2015.

In the early 2000s, the Brazilian government developed advanced laws to eradicate labor analogous to slavery and the vulnerability and exploitation of labor, which gave visibility to and helped to advance this cause. Currently some measures have diminished the advance, impacting negatively on the fight.

InPacto unites several players to work together to prevent and eradicate slave labor. The objective is to mobilize entire economic sectors and to find ways to help end this practice in production chains. With the project, InPacto proposes structuring an organization’s communication platform to become a reference in the fight against slave labor in Brazil, expanding its reach, creating partnerships and giving constant visibility to the issue.

With support from BrazilFoundation, InPacto proposes to:

• Create a site that encourages a positive agenda to approach the cause of slave labor;
• Promote dialog between sectors and multi-stakeholders;
• Engage all segments of society in the combat against slave labor;
• Reach 10 thousand hits per month on the new platform.
