Grito do Futuro
The town of Eldorado dos Carajás in Pará experienced one of the most tragic massacres of the country’s history in 1996. In a clash between protesters from the Movement of Landless Rural Workers and the police, several workers were brutally murdered. The date of the massacre, April 17, became the National Day of Struggle for Agrarian Reform.
The Institute carries out artistic and educational activities with communities of landless workers in Pará, made up mostly of migrants and families in extreme poverty. In one of these communities, educators and the young people were brought together to develop cultural projects focusing on human rights, which would later be integrated into the curriculum of local schools. Additionally, they were trained in leadership and organized a forum that included other social organizations. The memory of the tragedy in 1996 was the catalyst for these actions.
